Beat Team Project part 3 - Learn to use the turntable as an instrument
Beat Team 3 will be the third time we have run this beat team project and this time things are really moving forward.
There will be two different groups – both on Thursday evenings – starting on the 17th Sept 2015.
Beginners and intermediates will be 6.30 – 7.30pm – welcome to all and FREE.
Advanced only will be 7.30pm – 8.30pm – invitation only and will require commitment to rehearse and perform. Also FREE.
You will learn how to scratch, work as a band, and will be invited to share your skills with others and create your own pieces for performance.
DJ Qbert explains the first scratch everyone should learn:
During the 1st hour each week anyone can join in and learn then practise in headphones. We know everyone starts somewhere so anyone can try it out.
Those DJs who can scratch well and work as a team will be first in line to get on more projects to develop this. Those DJs who are amazing may move up to our advanced group and will be touring, performing and uploading music as part of our Beat Team.
The sessions are available to 11-18 year olds, are FREE and will run on Thursday evenings from the 17th Sept 2015 to 17th Dec 2015. There will be opportunities to perform after that (dates to be confirmed.)
Places are tight but to get involved fill in the contact form on the right hand side of this page and be sure you enter “beat team” where it asks for a message.
Or if you already know us just text or email jim or dan.
Our main aim is to have the turntable/DJ Deck recognised as an instrument. At Beat Team 3 we will also be testing teaching methods on you and touring these techniques round schools. If we can show your schools how good DJing is you may be able to use it to perform in GCSE music. YOU CAN HELP THIS HAPPEN and LEARN NEW SKILLS.
